All About Big Cats

This will be all about the big cats that exist in today's world. I will list some interesting facts about each one as well as their conservation status(this is not all the big cats that exist)

Cheetahs, Tigers, Lions, Jaguars, Leapards

Cheetahs

A cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world.They can reach sixty or seventy miles per hour on short distances. Cheetahs eat animals such as hares, impalas, wildebeest calves, and gazelles. Cheetahs are considered big cats.Though unlike big cats they cannot roar, instead they purr. Cheetahs live in eastern and southern Africa. Cheetah numbers are going down due to habitat loss and declining numbers of prey. Cheetahs are listed vulnerable on the endangered species list.

Tigers

Tigers are the largest big cat in the world, their tails are just 3 feet long. Tigers can eat up to eighty pounds of meat in a night. tigers enjoy eating deer and antelope. Tigers live in India and southeast Asia. Unlike most big cats tigers like water and enjoy swimming.Tigers population has not down well due to humans using land for farming and logging. Tigers are listed endangered on the endangered species list

Lions

Lions live in prides that can be as small as three animals or as large as 40. A male lion's roar can be heard as far away as 5 miles. Most lions are found in Africa but there is a small number in Gir Forest National Park in western India. Not all lions have manes but the ones that do can have manes up to 16 cm long. Lions are the only cat species that roars together. LIons population is going down due to humans killing them to protect themselves and their livestock. Lions are listed vulnerable on the endangered species list.

Jaguars

Jaguars are the third largest cat in the world and the largest in the Americas. Jaguars look a lot like leapards but their main difference is their rosettes. Jaguars rossetes have a black dot in the middle that's how you can tell the difference. Jaguars unlike most big cats enjoy swimming and are good at swimming. Jaguars will eat pretty much anything. Jaguars used to be found in southwest U.S.A as well as most of South America but now they are found in the amazon rainforest and in the pantanal.Deforestation is a growing threat to Jaguars. Jaguars are listed near threatened on the endangered species list.

Leopards

Leopards are the only big cat that loves to climb and is really good at it. Leopards live in sub-Saharan Africa, northeast Africa, Central Asia, India, and China. Leopards eat pretty much anything that they can find. Growing threats to leopards include deforestation and illegal wildlife trade.
